RED RIFLE a homebred for Twin Creeks Racing out of the stakes winning mare MAY NIGHT, went wire to wire in the Maxxam Gold Cup S. setting a new track record at Sam Houston. Robbie Albarado guided the 4 year colt by Giant’s Causeway and set the fractions at every pole. The rest of the field was no match for Red Rifle as he finished the 1-1/18 miles in 1:48:73 by a 2-3/4 length victory. This was Red Rifle’s first stakes win and third career win from 6 starts and is co-owned with WinStar Farm and trained by Todd Pletcher.
